Damiano Tommasi, the president of the Italian players association (AIC), has shared his belief that there is a lack of perspective at the moment when it comes to people suggesting when the season could possibly resume.

Serie A, like almost every other league on the planet, is currently on hold due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains completely unknown whether it will even be possible for the season to resume but it has not stopped speculation in the media and from people making suggestions.

Lots of dates have been thrown out there with most of them being around the end of May or start of June time now.

“First of all, there must be a sense of perspective that is missing today. At the moment, people have to limit travel and we first have to get out of our houses,” Tommasi remarked in an interview with Italian newspaper Libero, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“We also need to understand the effects of the infection on sports fitness. Pepe Reina confessed that he felt he lacked oxygen for 25 minutes.”

Tommasi, who is perhaps best known from his playing days at Roma, then went on to outline three things he believes are required before the season can actually resume.

“The first thing is that the emergency is over. The second thing is that it must be possible to play on beyond June 30 because there are still lots of matches to be played. Choosing promoted and relegated sides now is complicated.”

“Thirdly, you must be able to travel safely because it is not only a matter of training but also moving around 50 people twice a week in what is currently the red zone.”
