Legendary Inter goalkeeper Ivano Bordon has shared his belief that current Inter number one Samir Handanovic can still perform at a top level for Inter for a few more years.

The 35-year-old Slovenian has been with the club since the Summer of 2012 and has been virtually ever present since.

His contract with the club is due to expire at the end of next season although multiple reports have suggested that Inter are working to extend his contract with the club by at least another season.

“Handanovic can still guarantee Inter another two or three years at a high level. Since he has worn the captain’s armband he has also made a noticeable leap in terms of safety and personality. He has become even more responsible,” Bordon remarked in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

With Handanovic now getting on a bit, there has been no shortage of reports speculating about his potential successor at the Nerazzurri and Bordon has suggested Inter could promote from within with Ionut Andrei Radu.

“Inter can focus on Radu who has very good qualities. Perhaps by making him Samir’s assistant for a while he can learn precious things. Inter should aim to have two strong goalkeepers.”

Bordon, who spent 13 years on Inter’s books between the years 1970 and 1983 and also spent some time as a coach, then spoke on current Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“Conte’s Inter had a very good season until it stopped. Inter remain behind Juventus but with two or three signings they can become even stronger.

“Conte perhaps wanted Vidal but in any case he transmitted a mentality and a way of experiencing games that is incredible. Inter are on the right path and the work he had done is excellent, even for the future.”
