Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni may benefit from the delay to Euro 2020 as he looks to earn a place in the Italy squad, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The report details how the 20-year-old Italian defender, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has managed to earn a spot in the Inter squad this season under coach Antonio Conte. The player initially struggled to earn playing time under the former Juventus and Chelsea coach, before establishing himself after the first five league games of the season.
Bastoni has even started ahead of Uruguayan veteran Diego Godin, the report continues, showing his strengths and Conte’s belief in his potential. The 20-year-old has not made his Italy debut yet, but the delay to Euro 2020 means that he can continue to grow and establish himself over the next 12 months, proving to coach Roberto Mancini that he should be part of the Azzurri squad.
