Inter are on the verge of signing Napoli’s Belgian striker Dies Mertens on a free transfer when his contract with the Partenopei expires at the end of this June, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset late last night.

The report details how the Nerazzurri have offered Mertens a two year contract with an option for a third season, worth around €6 million net per year.

The 32-year-old Belgian striker has been linked with Premier League outfit in recent days, and his contract with Napoli expires at the end of the season with a renewal now looking less and less likely.

Due to Inter’s decision not to sign Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez, the report continues, the arrival of Mertens seems even more likely.

The Nerazzurri are also focusing on signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud as well on a free transfer, the report continues, stressing that Inter CEO Marotta is on the verge of securing two new players before May.

Mertens has made 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1787 minutes, scoring 12 goals and provided six assists.
