Legendary former Inter attacker Ivan Zamorano has recalled the battles he had with former AC Milan and Argentina national team defender Roberto Fabian Ayala during Milan derbies.

“We were two warriors, on the field we challenged each other hard but in the end we met to eat asado in the home of Javier Zanetti or Andres Guglielminpietro,” the Chilean remarked in an interview with Argentine broadcaster TNT Sports earlier on today.

Zamorano also touched upon how it felt to receive praise from current AC Milan and former Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic prior to a recent Milan derby match.

“He made me very happy, Zlatan is not a guy who always talks about other players. He surprised me but at the same time he made me happy with his words. He is one of the greatest goalscorers in the world.”

He also reflected briefly on the famous shirt number he wore for part of his time with Inter, 1 + 8, which he adopted upon the arrival of Il Fenomeno Ronaldo, who Zamorano gave the number nine jersey to.

“At Inter I had the 1 + 8 shirt which represented an important stage in history, everyone remembers it.”

Zamorano joined Inter in the Summer of 1996 from Spanish powerhouses Real Madrid and would spend five years with the Nerazzurri before departing to join Mexican outfit Club America.

The now 53-year-old made a total of 150 appearances for Inter during his spell with the club, in which he tscored 41 goals.
