Ex-Inter Goalkeeper Toldo: “Samir Handanovic Is One Of The Best In The World”

Legendary Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has shared his belief that the remainder of the season should be cancelled and no titles awarded due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

“I would give up now, I would say lets close it now and start back in September ready and prepared. The Scudetto should not be assigned but teams should be qualified for the European competitions,” he remarked in an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio last night.

He was then asked whether it was Christian Vieri or him who scored ‘that’ goal against Juventus all those years ago.

“It was given to Vieri but in reality he did not even touch it. The goal was mine. I think it was the funniest thing that ever happened to me in football.”

He concluded the interview by discussing whether he feels he is similar to current Inter number one Samir Handanovic.

“I see him as very similar to me. He is both calm and concentrated. I really like him as a goalkeeper, for years I have said that he is one of the best in the world. He has played well for years.”

Toldo joined Inter in the Summer of 2001 from fellow Serie A side Fiorentina and he went on to spend just shy of a decade on the club’s books before retiring after Inter’s historic treble win in the 2009/10 season.

The former Italian national team shot-stopper made a total of 233 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri during which time kept a total of 95 clean sheets.
