Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano has revealed it was a dispute over a contract renewal with former AC Milan director Adriano Galliani which led to him crossing the city divide in Milan to join Inter.
Cassano joined AC Milan ahead of the 2011/12 season on a three year deal but spent just a single season before switching sides to Inter, where he also spent just one season before a move to Parma.
“I have always spoken well of everyone from AC Milan, where I won a league title. I only ever had problems with Adriano Galliani which were due to me wanting a new contract,” the well-travelled striker explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on today.
“They were only dealing with people who had one year left whilst I had two. Inter were looking at me and I decided to go there after the breakdown in relations with Galliani.”
Cassano also spoke very highly of long serving Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio and admitted that it is down to him that he has started the process of becoming a director himself.
“I know him well and I recently video called him to show that I shaved my head like his [laughs]. Thanks to him I have started to study to become a director.
“He is the best out there, he has discovered many player and he is number one in that regard but he does not sell players well.”
During his season with Inter, Cassano, who retired from playing in 2018 after a spell with Hellas Verona, made 39 appearances across all competitions. He scored nine goals and provided a total of 15 assists for his teammates.
