Inter vice president Javier Zanetti has shared his belief that Lautaro Martinez will be sticking around with Inter for the long term amid continued speculation surrounding a potential Summer transfer window switch to Spanish giants Barcelona.
“He is a very intelligent boy, he is taking full advantage of the opportunity to play in such an important league,” he began an interview with Argentine radio station Cadena 3 which took place earlier on today.
“When we saw him for the first time we imagined what he could become so. The fact he plays for Inter makes us proud and happy and I think we will have him with us for a long time.”
Zanetti proceeded to stress that thinking about potential player movement is not the main priority at the moment given what is going on across the world due to the ongoing global Coroanvirus pandemic.
“The last thing we are thinking about now is the transfer market. Today we think about health, which is the most important thing.
“When we go back to training with the hope that we can get back to playing, we will see what the future holds. We are focused on overcoming this moment because there are many families who are suffering.
“The situation is complicated. It will not be easy to return to play.”
Zanetti then went on to insist that the club’s current project requires time and sang the praises of Inter manager Antonio Conte who has really raised the level at the club since he came in to replace Luciano Spalletti this past Summer.
“It is a project that requires time, a strategic plan and people with important human values. Conte is a manager with great ability and experience. He knows Italian football well and fits well in the project for the future. He has a style and identity that will allow us to be competitive and protagonists in our league.”
He concluded the interview by speaking on his current role as vice president of Inter, a role which he has held for close to six years now.
“I am very happy to be able to be useful to a club that has given me so much. Being vice president is a great responsibility. I am not only tied to the sports side of things. I also do a lot of things in the social and commercial fields. I learn something new every day.”
