Inter have decided against punishing striker Romelu Lukaku after he apologised to the club for recent comments he made during an interview according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
In an interview with Belgian television presenter Kat Kerkhofs, which took place via Instagram Live, the 26-year-old Belgian national team striker made a sensational claim that there was a time when 23 of 25 Inter first team squad members were ill and were not tested for Covid-19 at the time.
Lukaku explained himself to the club and showed that he was indeed sorry for what he said. The club let him off with a warning and opted against fining him and at the request of the player himself, the interview has been taken down.
This season Lukaku, who joined Inter in a club record €65 million deal this past Summer, has made 35 appearances across all competitions to date. He has scored 23 goals and provided five assists.
