Lazio president and owner Claudio Lotito has shared his belief that Inter and Atalanta should not be part of a potential playoff for the Serie A title if things go down that route.

As uncertainty regarding the resumption and conclusion of the 2019/20 season resumes, the idea of the season being decided by a series of playoffs would appear to be growing, especially after European football’s governing body UEFA gave federations the green light to finish their leagues in such a way.

It has now been almost two months since the last ball was kicked in Serie A due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and reports have even emerged suggesting there are clubs who have zero intention of returning to the field and wish to see the remainder of the season cancelled.

“We are just a point away from Juventus. It would be unfair if a team like Inter, who have eight points less than us or Atalanta who have 14 points less, were involved but I would accept a playoff between ourselves and Juventus,” Lotito explained in an interview with Rome based newspaper La Repubblica, which appeared in today’s print edition of the newspaper.
