Pavel Nedved was contacted by Inter coach Jose Mourinho in the spring of 2009, asking him to join the Nerazzurri, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how Mourinho phoned Nedved in Spring 2009, telling him that he shouldn’t retire and should still join Inter. He revealed that the Portuguese coach told him that the Nerazzurri were already planning to win the Champions League and were hoping Nedved would be tempted by the idea.

The former Lazio and Juventus midfielder highlighted how Mourinho knew that he always wanted to win the Champions League, the report continues, but Nedved realised that he would never be able to play with the Nerazzurri. He told the Portuguese coach that he would have joined him at any club in the world but not at Inter.

The Czech midfielder spent the last 13 years of his career in Italy, first with Lazio and then with Juventus. He won three league titles whilst playing in Serie A.
