Legendary Inter striker Diego Milito has downplayed the idea that it is thanks to him that Lautaro Martinez is at Inter.

The current Racing Club sporting director has instead insisted that it is down to Lautaro himself that he is currently on the books of the Nerazzurri, who he has a contract with until the end of the 2022/23 season.

“Lautaro is not at Inter thanks to me, but because he is a great player,” Inter treble winning hero Milito remarked in an interview with Argentine news outlet Movistar.

In recent weeks and months Lautaro has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona and Milito proceeded to discuss the links.

“I think he is fine at Inter but playing at Barcelona, with Messi, would be an excellent opportunity for him. He is a very complete player who is doing brilliant things at Inter. The truth is that I don’t know what will happen, I have heard that there are many rumours.”

Since joining Inter in a circa €20 million deal, the Argentine national team forward has went on to make a total of 66 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 25 goals and tallied five assists.

31 of those appearances have come this season, his first as a regular starter, as have 16 of the goals and four of the assists.
