Former Palermo, Sampdoria and Genoa defender Ezequiel Munoz has shared his belief that compatriot Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is currently the second best Argentine footballer out there behind multi-time world player of the year winner Lionel Messi.

Lautaro has exploded this term, his first as a regular starter at Inter, and as a result of his explosion, he has found himself linked to several top clubs in the world, none more so than Barcelona, who have been courting him for several months.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain have all also been linked with making a move for the 22-year-old sensation, who is under contract with Inter through to the end of the 2022/23 season.

“Apart from Messi, he is the best footballer from Argentina. He is strong, fast and scoresgoals. It’s normal for many teams to want him, he’s a top player,” Munoz explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

Munoz, who is currently on the books of Superliga Argentina side Lanus, was then asked who he prefers between Lautaro and Juventus star Paulo Dybala.

“They are different. I was lucky enough to play with Paulo. I would struggle to decide, they are two top players who are both important players for the national team.”
