Italian government minister for sport and youth policies Vincenzo Spadafora has refused to be drawn into making a prediction for when the 2019/20 season could resume.

The 2019/20 Serie A season has been on hold for just shy of two months now as have all other sports competitions in the country as a result of the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic.

Athletes, including footballers, were allowed to resume training from the beginning of this week, with many players of clubs making the most of their clubs facilities already but not all clubs players have returned yet with Inter one of those clubs.

Reports have stated that group training will be allowed to resume from May 18 but it remains to be seen when the season could resume, if at all.

“I do not want to make a prediction, we must be careful and hope that from now until May 18th the data on the infection will be positive, so we can reopen slowly,” Spadafora explained to Italian news agency ANSA earlier on today.

He was then asked about whether games will be played behind closed doors when the season resumes: “This will be 100% the case.”
