Paris Saint Germain have developed an interest in signing Napoli attacker Dries Mertens according to a report from Belgian news outlet Voetbalkrant.com.

Mertens contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of this season and as a result a number of clubs have shown an interest in signing him, namely Inter, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

Newly crowned French champions Paris Saint Germain have now entered the race to sign Mertens, who celebrated his 33rd birthday yesterday.

The French capital city club are interested in signing Mertens as a replacement for the outgoing Edinson Cavani, who is set to leave the club in a matter of weeks once his contract with them expires.

The diminutive forward, who has been with Napoli since the Summer of 2013, has made 29 appearances across all competitions to date this term.

In just shy of 1800 minutes on the field, he has scored 12 goals and has provided six assists for his teammates.
