Dries Mertens is looking increasingly likely to be the player Inter sign to replace Lautaro Martinez should he depart the club in the coming months according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.
The Belgian national team attacker’s contract with current employers Napoli is due to expire in the coming weeks and he will therefore be able to be acquired on a free transfer.
Inter are trying to close a deal for the former PSV Eindhoven player and have offered him a two year contract with an annual salary of €5 million plus a large signing on bonus.
RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner has also been suggested as a possible replacement for Lautaro, who continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona, but the report warns that it will be difficult for Inter to overcome the competition of Liverpool for the 24-year-old forward, who has a €60 million release clause in his contract.
