As part of his newly released book, Juventus defender and captain Giorgio Chiellini has sang the praises of Inter owned striker Mauro Icardi.
The 27-year-old Argentine is currently out on loan at newly crowned French champions Paris Saint Germain and Chiellini went on to state that Icardi is impressive and that he holds high respect for him.
“Among the great opponents I have faced, I highly respect Icardi, who inside the box is always on target. I would define him as impressive. Mauro often scored against Juventus, this hurt me.”
He then discussed Icardi’s well documented issues which led to him being pushed out of Inter by club management and speculated about a potential strike force Inter could deploy in the future if Paris Saint Germain do not sign Icardi on a permanent basis.
“I’m convinced he’s a good boy. Something must have happened at Inter, I say it as an older brother.
“Maybe he forced his hand a bit too much, but from a sporting point of view, I wonder how a top player like him didn’t remain at the Nerazzurri for 15 years, scoring another 200 goals.
“As a Juventus player though, I would say that it luckily didn’t happen but can you imagine Icardi together with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez?”
He then went on to admit that moving him on was probably the right decision for the Nerazzurri team to make.
“If two people like Beppe Marotta and Antonio Conte decided to go on without Icardi, they would have had their reasons. It was probably the right decision, but Maurito is a number nine that shifts the balance.”
Icardi joined Inter in the Summer of 2013 from fellow Serie A side Sampdoria and has been absolutely prolific in front of goal whilst he has represented the club with him having scored 124 goals in 219 appearances across all competitions to date.
