With Dries Mertens seemingly set to sign a contract extension with Napoli, Inter have now shifted their attention onto Paris Saint Germain forward Edinson Cavani according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inter looked set to land Mertens on a free transfer but things changed completely yesterday when Napoli upped their contract extension offer and now Mertens appears to only be a step away from prolonging his stay at the Stadio San Paolo.

Due to this, Inter will now focus on Cavani, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the month. He would like to sign a contract extension with the French capital city club but to date there is nothing on this front and perhaps never will be.

The report then goes on to add that Inter are refusing to drop their demands for striker Lautaro Martinez, who continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona.

If Barcelona manage to convince Inter to part ways with Lautaro, then the Nerazzurri club will go in for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, who has also been linked to Liverpool.

The 24-year-old German international has a release clause in his contract which will be €60 million if RB Leipzig win the Bundesliga or €50 million if they do not.
