Inter have sped up their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Uruguayan international striker Edinson Cavani according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Inter appeared close to signing Dries Mertens but now the player has made a u-turn and looks set to extend his contract with Napoli.

As a result of this, Inter have now shifted their attention to Cavani, whose contract with Paris Saint Germain expires at the end of next month.

Inter are not alone in courting the former Napoli player with the report from the Rome based newspaper going on to add that Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are also keen on adding him to their ranks in the coming months.

This season Cavani has made 22 appearances across all competitions to date and in just shy of 1100 minutes on the field, he has scored seven goals and has provided three assists for his teammates.
