Inter have announced that they are to compete in the ‘European Solidarity Cup – Football for heroes’ alongside fellow top clubs Bayern Munich and Real Madrid next year in an official statement posted on the club website.

The three teams will face off in a round robin style tournament at some point next year and the dates of the tournament will depend on each team’s schedule and when fans will be able to attend games again.

Inter will face Bayern Munich in Milan at San Siro, Real Madrid at their Santiago Bernabeu stadium and Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will play one another at Bayer Munich’s Allianz Arena.

The net proceeds from the matches will all go toward supporting medical infrastructures in each of the clubs respective countries as a symbol of unity.

As part of the official statement, Inter president Steven Zhang shared his thoughts on the tournament and spoke on some of the reasons behind it taking place.

“The pandemic has hit people all over the world with great force. The great commitment of all healthcare workers has been essential to now allow us to look to the future. With this initiative we want to thank them and celebrate their work and at the same time send a message of unity and solidarity between nations.”
