Inter could take a more rigid stance in negotiations with Barcelona over Lautaro Martinez after having missed out on signing Dries Mertens according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, aired earlier this afternoon.

Inter looked set to land Mertens on a free transfer once his deal expired with Napoli but the player had a change of heart and is now instead on the verge of extending his stay with the Stadio San Paolo club, who he has played for since 2013.

Negotiations between Inter and Barcelona over Lautaro are ongoing as Barcelona have promised the 22-year-old Argentine striker a super contract.

The report goes on to add that Lautaro will push to leave Inter to join the Blaugrana club but states that he will not force things.

Lautaro has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date. In just over 2400 minutes on the park, he has scored 16 goals and has provided four assists for his teammates.
