Inter and Atletico Madrid are to battle it out to sign Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The Uruguayan national team striker is to leave the French capital city club at the end of next month when his contract expires and will therefore be available to clubs on a free transfer.

It now remains to be seen if the prolific 33-year-old will accept a significant salary reduction to join Inter, who cannot afford to pay his reported €12 million a year salary but his personal desire to return to Italy could help Inter out in any negotiations.

Cavani may not be the only current Paris Saint Germain player Inter bring in either with the report adding that they could also bring in Layvin Kurzawa, who, like Cavani, will leave at the end of next month when his contract expires.

It concludes that Inter may also pursue a move for Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri who has refused to rule out the possibility of a return to Italy, where he has previously played for Roma and Palermo.
