In an interview with Inter’s official YouTube channel as part of the ‘Inter Classics’ series, legendary former Inter striker Adriano has reminisced about Inter’s 2-1 Milan derby win over city rivals AC Milan in February 2009.

“I scored a header in that game, my hand helped a little but I did not do it on purpose. It was very important and exciting to play in the most important game in the city,” he began the interview.

“Personally speaking, I approached this game nervously because I knew I was going to face great opponents. To score a goal in the derby is an impressive thing.”

There were many Brazilians competing in the match for both sides and Adriano then spoke on that and former teammate Maicon.

“It was nice because we made fun of those who lost. We spoke on the phone to talk about the match, it was a beautiful thing. Maicon gave me many assists, we knew each other well because we played in the national team together, with him it was easy.”

He then went on to share which he believes was the best of his 74 goals that he scored during his time on Inter’s books.

“The best one that I scored was against Real Madrid. That game was important for my career as it made me known. Seedorf told Materazzi to let me shoot and it was a surprise to me but thank God everything well well, I scored a nice goal.

In conclusion Adriano, who also played for the likes of Flamengo and Parma during his playing career, thanked the Inter fans for the support they showed him whilst he was with the club.

“I wish to thank the fans for making me the emperor. I thank them for the good times as Inter has always been my second home and it still is today too.

“I ended my adventure because my head was not in the right place after my father’s death. I left not because I did not want to play for Inter anymore but because of that personal matter.

“I wish to apologise to the fans for that and thank them because they treated me well even in difficult times, I hope to return one day to see you all.”

Adriano had two spells with Inter and spent a total of six years on the clubs books. He made 177 appearances across all competitions and on top of scoring 74 goals, he also provided 27 assists for his teammates.
