Lega Serie A will meet next week to discuss ways of finishing the Serie A season amidst the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper la Repubblica.

The report details how the clubs will meet this coming week to discuss different ways of finishing the season, with the plan being to play the remaining games behind closed doors, similar to how the German Bundesliga has resumed.

One idea that has been suggested is to have a series of play off and play out games, to decide who would win the league title and which teams would be relegated to Serie B.

The Serie A clubs will meet with the Lega Calcio this week and will remain consistent in their opposition to play off and play out games, the report continues.

For the moment the idea is only a backup plan of the Italian Football Federation, should the season have to end quicker due to the current medical situation. Italy is slowly leaving lockdown, but the effects of the Coronavirus are widespread amid fear of a second wave of the virus.
