UEFA have indicated that clubs who don’t pay their players’ salaries will not be able to register for next season’s Champions League and Europa League, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Repubblica.

The report details how UEFA view the failure to pay players as a violation of Financial Fair Play and therefore would exclude the clubs from competing in next season’s European competitions. Only with an agreement between clubs and players would a lack of payment for the months of March and April be accepted by UEFA.

This position favours the wishes of the AIC, the Italian PFA, the report continues, who want players to not be punished for the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Some Italian clubs have been working hard to reach private agreements with their players regarding a salary cut, with the first successful case being Juventus. Inter are still working on the agreement, although nothing has been announced yet.
