Barcelona would not be able to sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez until the start of July at the earliest, according to a report from Spanish media outlet Sport earlier today.

The report details how the Blaugrana’s financial situation is unstable at the moment, in part due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Even before the virus, however, the club still had a negative balance sheet of €124 million. The main objective of the club now is to limit their losses as much as possible, in order to reduce the overall impact of the pandemic.

This is why Barcelona have been trying to include players in deals with both Juventus and Inter, the report continues, as they knew they’d be unable to pay large sums of money. It’s useless for the club now to focus on Lautaro, as there is no chance of them being able to pay his €111 million release clause before 1st July, although the chances of them paying that afterward also look slim.
