Inter will offer Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez a new contract in August should Barcelona fail to sign the player in July, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the Blaugrana are keen to sign the 22-year-old Argentine forward, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023. Lautaro has a €111 million release clause valid for the first week of July, giving the Catalan club limited time in their fight for his signature.

Should Barcelona fail to sign Lautaro, the report continues, Inter will offer Lautaro a new contract, so as to tie him to the club for the foreseeable future. It’s not clear yet whether the release clause would be increased or eliminated entirely, although it is obvious that the Nerazzurri have no interest in losing the 22-year-old.

Lautaro has scored 16 goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances so far this season.
