Legendary former Inter player Sandro Mazzola has shared his belief that Napoli should not underestimate Inter in their Coppa Italia tie.

The two sides are set to meet at the Stadio San Paolo tonight and Napoli head into the match at their home ground with a 1-0 advantage over the visiting Nerazzurri from the first leg match-up, which was contested back in February.

“I think Napoli are favourites over Inter, but Napoli should be careful. The Nerazzurri play very well away from home and may surprise Gattuso’s team. In football anything is possible, let’s wait and see what happens,” Mazzola began an interview ahead of the match with Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli ahead of the match.

Mazzola, who spent the entirety of his playing career at Inter, then went on to share his thoughts on Inter’s failed pursuit of Napoli’s Dries Mertens.

“Inter could have done a great deal by signing Mertens. I really like the Belgian, he is a champion, Inter probably moved too late to sign him.”

Mazzola came through the ranks at Inter and debuted in 1960. He spent the next 17 years on the clubs books before retiring in 1977 after over 500 appearances in the Nerazzurri shirt.

Following his retirement, Mazzola became part of the club management set-up at the club and he also served as Inter’s sporting director for a period in the 1990s.
