Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta believes the club can soon find an agreement over a new contract with Gabonese international striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he told reporters during a pre-match press conference broadcast on Arsenal’s YouTube channel ahead of the return of the Premier League this weekend.

When asked how contract talks with Aubameyang are going Arteta underlined that it is very important that the club show him that they believe in him and make him feel wanted, before saying that he believes the player is very happy at the club.

“He needs to feel valued, he needs to feel he belongs to us and that we want him. think at the moment I am extremely happy with how he’s been performing and behaving.

“I have a really good relationship with him and we can discuss face to face a lot of things. So far as I’m aware I think he’s very happy at the club.”

When asked if negotiations where ongoing over a new contract Arteta stated that he is feeling confident that an agreement can soon be reached.

“We have had many discussions with Pierre, his family and his agents and I’m pretty positive that we can find the right agreement for all parties.”

Aubameyang joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 in a deal worth reportedly £56 million. The former AC Milan youth team player has since then featured 97 times across all competitions scoring 61 times in the process.

Aubameyang’s current contract expires at the end of June 2021.
