Former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti has joined others in paying tribute to the late Mario Corso having attended his funeral earlier on today.

Legendary Inter winger Corso passed away this past weekend aged 78 and his funeral service took place this morning at the basilica of Sant’Ambrogio in Milan.

Moratti was one of several people with a connection to Inter in attendance at the service with many of Corso’s former teammates as well as current vice president Javier Zanetti and chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta also there.

“I think those were lucky enough to see him play have an indistinguishable memory of him. He was a unique player with fantastic talent,” Moratti explained in an interview with Italian news agency ANSA.

“He was a man who perfectly represented why everyone loved him. He was a special and good man. He is unforgettable.

“He was a great friend and good person and I feel great sorrow.  He was always a ‘protégé’. He always understood it and always reciprocated with the same affection. He was a big Inter fan and built the history of Inter. My father, who was generous, gave him a car, he was like a son.”

Corso spent 16 years on Inter’s books between 1957 and 1973 and was an integral part of the Grande Inter side of the 1960s. Corso, who made 23 appearances for the Italian national team during his career, made over 500 appearances across all competitions for Inter, in which he scored 94 goals.

Corso spent three years as Inter’s club captain and also spent a period in charge as manager following his retirement as a player.
