In today’s print edition, Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport have analysed the performance of referee Davide Massa in last night’s crazy 3-3 draw between Inter and Sassuolo.

Sassuolo rushed to an early lead through Francesco Caputo. Inter managed to overturn things by the half time interval, which they went into 2-1 up thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Biraghi.

Inter had many chances to extend their lead and put the game out of sight but failed to do so before Sassuolo equalised. Inter scored with five minutes to spare and looked set to go on to win but moments later Sassuolo equalised and ensured the points were shared.

The report from the Rome based news outlet believes that Massa got penalty and non-penalty calls correct. When it came to the non-penalty when the ball hit off Ashley Young’s arm, the penalty was not given as he gave the impression of wanting to get his arm out of the way.

The report goes on to criticise Massa for the way he dished out cards throughout the match. He dished out no shortage of yellow cards and also gave a red card to Milan Skriniar late on. He should have also handed out a red card to Sassuolo player Rogerio in the first half.
