In today’s print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport have analysed three decisions in particular that referee Fabio Maresca made during last night’s match between Parma and Inter.

Parma took the lead through Gervinho and should have put the game out of sight for the visitors but failed to do so. Inter came to life in the final 10 minutes and scored twice thanks to Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni to leave the Stadio Ennio Tardini with all three points.

Maresca made the correct decision to not award Inter a penalty when Bruno Alves blasted the ball of the arm of teammate Kastriot Dermaku.

Seven minutes later he made the correct decision again, with thanks to VAR, after the ball came of Jasmin Kurtic’s arm. Marseca checked the VAR monitor and the footage showed that Diego Godin was in fact offside which invalidated the ball hitting Kurtic’s arm.

Maresca was also right to not award a penalty in favour of Parma after Dejan Kulusevski went down in the box under pressure from Nicolo Barella just before the half time interval.
