Manchester United legend Roy Keane has come to the defence of Manchester United owned Alexis Sanchez, who is currently out on loan at Inter.

Having flopped spectacularly since his arrival at Manchester United, the Premier League club took the decision to loan him out to Inter this past Summer in order to get some of his bumper salary off of their books.

Sanchez has not exactly set the world alight whilst on loan at Inter although has shown some flashes of brilliance and has performed particularly well when he starts, especially in league play.

In 19 appearances across all competitions to date for Inter, the Chilean national team player has scored one goal and tallied four assists.

“I don’t know why anyone would ever be worried at what players are getting. The first thing you mention to me is his wages. What’s his wages got to do with me and you,” Keane, who spent 12 years with the Red Devils, explained in an interview with the Irish Independent.

“Other people are overpaid. In the media. Actors have a bad movie and they make $20 million but I don’t hear people criticise them. ‘Oh, but they made a good one two years ago.’

“The bottom line is the club gave him the wages; the club agreed the contract and a contract is there to be honoured. He’s having a difficult spell.

“A lot of players will have difficult spells. But I certainly wouldn’t look at a player who is on X amount and get angry.”

Sanchez’s loan deal with Inter has been extended until the end of the 2019/20 Serie A season as per various reports but as things stand he will be unable to play in the Europa League.
