Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “Borja Valero Gave A Great Performance, I’m Proud Of This Group”

Inter manager Antonio Conte has sang the praises of Spanish midfielder Borja Valero following the veteran’s good performance in Inter’s 6-0 win over Brescia.

The 35-year-old former Fiorentina player played the entirety of the triumph over the struggling Rondinelle at San Siro and although he neither scored or assisted in the match, former Italian national team boss Conte was very happy with his performance.

“He is someone who has an above-average football intelligence, I can only speak well of him,” Conte began an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the match.

“He always gave great availability, even in moments of suffering. Today I made him play as a playmaker and I think he gave a great performance.”

Conte then reviewed the performance from the team.

“Starting as fast as ever, we want to play proactively and not wait around. Sometimes we succeed in everything whilst sometimes there has been carelessness that has cost us dearly.”

He then spoke on the response that the team gave in this game as well as the win over Parma this past weekend following the disappointing 3-3 draw with Sassuolo just over a week ago.

“This team has soul and heart. They are guys who have generosity and courage. As I often say, the step to be taken is on a psychological level because sometimes we have made serious mistakes that have cost us points or we have suffered to the end. Even in the Italian Cup but I am proud of this group.”

Next he was asked whether he was happy with the fact that the team kept the foot on the accelerator for the whole match and did not stop trying to score despite being so far ahead of their opponents.

“Absolutely yes. We are working precisely on this type of concept, even at the risk of suffering counters and conceding.

“I want a team that runs forward, with and without the ball, putting pressure on the opponent and not suffering. We dominated the match and we must continue like this. We want to give satisfaction to our fans.”
