Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to gathered reporters at a press conference yesterday, after the Bergamo based club’s 1-0 win over Cagliari in Sardinia.

He discussed how the club would like to finish in second place in the table, relevant considering that both second place Lazio and third place Inter lost their games this weekend.

“I’d like that. Even if Lazio and Inter are great teams. We must also think about preparing for the Champions League. We also need to see guys who have played less. But we are still thinking about it. In a few days we’ll play matches to consolidate our position in the league table.”

Atalanta’s scrappy 1-0 win over the Rossoblu yesterday has put them only one point behind 3rd place Inter, who dropped points against Bologna after a disappointing 2-1 loss at home in the San Siro.

Antonio Conte’s squad are four points behind 2nd place Lazio and 11 points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus, who appear to be favourites for the league title now after their win this weekend.

Inter’s next game against Hellas Verona on Thursday this week will be crucial, as the Milanese club look to bounce back from a period of inconsistency with a win over the Gialloblu.
