Legendary former Inter captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi insists that Inter must remain patient and cannot just change everything every year.

Reports in the media have suggested that Inter manager Antonio Conte could be sacked or resign from the club at the end of the season following a series of outbursts after Inter’s recent fixtures, that have certainly not went as well as anyone at the club would have hoped.

“It would be a great surprise if he were to leave Inter. Inter must be patient, you cannot try to change everything every year. Inter have made an important investment by bringing in Conte, he is the leader. You have to build the team around him,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia show Sky Calcio Club earlier on today.

Bergomi went on to reminisce about the Inter sides that he played in and what a difference a signing can make when it comes to a team winning silverware.

“We were good players but then Matthaus came in and raised everyone’s level and we won. Conte has made it clear that it is right to bring in young players but you also need certain other signings. It is equally fair to say that Conte must be the one who raises the level of the players too.”

The 1982 World Cup winner spent the entirety of his playing career with Inter and has made the second most appearances of all time for the club with only current vice president Javier Zanetti having made more than him.
