Manchester City have sparked an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur central defender Jan Vertonghen according to a report in today’s print edition of British newspaper The Times.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is understood to be a big fan of the Belgian national team defender, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Vertonghen is one of three players that City have on their radar as they eye defensive reinforcement in the upcoming transfer window with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell also believed to be targets.

City are the latest club to have shown an interest in landing the former Ajax defender, who has also been linked with a potential switch to Inter in the past few months too.

This season the 33-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions to date. During his time on the park, he has scored two goals and provided one assist for his teammates.
