Antonio Conte’s decision to start Christian Eriksen on the bench against Torino was more than just a technical choice according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Inter manager has started the Dane, who arrived at the club in a circa €20 million deal in January from Tottenham Hotspur, on the bench in Inter’s past two matches and in three of Inter’s last four.

Eriksen, barring a few moments, has failed to live up to the expectations that people had of him and the report from the Milan based newspaper explains that whilst it was a technical choice, it rings of an assertion from Conte regarding a signing who has suffered more than he hasn’t been defended.

Since his arrival at the club on a four and a half year deal, the former Ajax player has made 16 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals and provided three assists too.
