Legendary former Inter captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his thoughts following Inter’s recent upturn in form following two consecutive victories.
“The teams that aspire to win must improve in the years before, from all points of view. In the last two games Inter have played well, continuously, with an important level of play throughout the game,” he began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia aired yesterday afternoon.
He then looked ahead to Inter’s upcoming match which is against Roma on Sunday and given the way fixtures are scheduled Inter can at least temporarily reduce the gap between themselves and league leaders Juventus to just three points.
“In Rome Inter will play before Juventus, we’ll see what happens. Victories are good medicine against controversy.”
He then went on to analyse Inter’s most recent match which was a resounding 4-0 win over SPAL last night at the Stadio Paolo Mazza with him touching specifically on the attacking tandem of Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez, with the latter being Inter’s man of the match.
“Against SPAL Inter made good use of the wings. I keep thinking that when Sanchez and Lautaro Martinez play together things are more fluid. Right now, Sanchez is brilliant. Lautaro was less selfish. Upfront there is more imagination and unpredictability.”
Bergomi spent his entire career with Inter between 1979 and 1999 and has made the second most appearances of all time for the club with only Javier Zanetti having made more. He was recently inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame as a reward for his services to the club.
