Former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi discussed the Nerazzurri’s performances since the restart of the season and the partnership between Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia, on the show ‘Sky Calcio Club’ earlier today.

“When the season restarted, they had to take advantage of those matches, especially at home. The team have always played the game.

“Then the tension drops and the fact that they haven’t closed out the game affects them, even though I think that if Inter come second it means they’ve taken a step forward. That’s how teams are built and then they try to win the Scudetto in years afterward.”

The 56-year-old Italian, who spent his entire 20 year career with the Nerazzurri from 1979 to 1999, then discussed the attacking partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez, who have won every league game when starting together.

“I liked the pairing, Inter were consistent in the two halves against SPAL and they did well. Sanchez is fine now, Lautaro has to learn to be less selfish and play more for the team, but he was keen to score. I liked them together.”

Inter are currently third in the league table after 33 games, sitting six points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus. A win over Roma tonight is crucial for coach Antonio Conte’s squad, as it means that the gap could be closed to as little as three points if Lazio beat the Bianconeri tomorrow evening.

A win for the Roman club would secure their position in next season’s Champions League, and so the game is of the upmost importance to Simone Inzaghi’s squad.
