Inter Linked River Plate Defender Lucas Martinez Quarta: “Javier Zanetti’s Statement Made Me Proud”

Inter linked Lucas Martinez Quarta discussed the Nerazzurri’s interest in him and his future in an interview with Italian media outlet GianlucaDiMarzio.com yesterday afternoon.

First, he spoke about Nerazzurri executive Javier Zanetti, who personally recommended the player to Inter.

“Zanetti’s words have made me proud, I haven’t let it go to my head but they make me understand that I’m on the right track, that I’m working in the best way. It’s a pleasure to know that someone as important in football as Zanetti is looking at you.”

The 24-year-old Argentine defender then touched on his future.

“I’m thinking about the present, to River, to next season. I’ve already spoken to my agent about it, when there’s something concrete, he’ll let me know and we’ll think about it. One of the objectives of my career is to win at River, to play with my national team, but also to play in Europe. And I always try to achieve my goals.”

Finally, Martinez Quarta discussed how he follows European football and how the Coronavirus will affect this summer’s transfer market.

“I watch a lot of European football and I’m curious, I know that this will be a complex market because of the coronavirus, so I can’t imagine what will happen.”

Martinez Quarta, who is contracted to River Plate until 2021, has made 20 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1738 minutes. In that time, he has provided one assist and helped the club keep eight clean sheets.

Inter have been following the 24-year-old Argentine centre back for some time now, as the player would be a strong low-cost option to strengthen the squad. Last season Martinez Quarta made 40 appearances across all competitions.
