Inter defender Stefan de Vrij discussed the Nerazzurri’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Roma earlier tonight in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia immediately after the game.

“We wanted to put pressure on Juventus, we’re disappointed. Today was a different match from the others, we went ahead after 15 minutes, it’s different from conceding a draw at the end.

“Then we showed we had the character to draw and also try to win. But that’s how it went.”

The 28-year-old De Vrij, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, made his 38th appearance of the season against the Giallorossi last night, being one of coach Antonio Conte’s most important players.

The Dutchman has scored three goals, provided four assists and helped the side keep nine clean sheets so far this season, across all competitions.

Inter are currently second in the league table, now sitting five points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus, who are facing Lazio tomorrow. A win for the Biancocelesti is crucial for the Nerazzurri, as a Juventus win would see the Turin based club’s cushion above second grow to eight points, an essentially insurmountable lead considering that only four games remain. Inter’s next game is against Fiorentina on Wednesday.
