In a very tactical affair at an empty Stadio Olimpico, Inter managed to take the lead via an Stefan de Vrij header from an Akexis Sanchez corner.

They almost went into the break with that lead intact, but thanks to some poor refereeing that is now standard in Serie A, it wasn’t to be. Mkhitaryan used his chance well to put Inter a goal back, until Conte threw on the cavalry to rescue a late point and ensure a Champions League spot for a third consecutive season.

Samir Handanovic – 5: Handanovic continues to look like he is on holiday. Does not inspire confidence in his defense or as the captain. Could not do much on the goals. Poor.

Milan Skriniar – 6: Skriniar had a good start to the game but got caught out along with his entire defense at the stroke of half time. Much better outing but not enough.

Stefan de Vrij – 5.5: Fantastic header to put Inter ahead in a crucial game. Kept Dzeko away mostly but it proved costly whenever he could not. Tough night for Stefan.

Alessandro Bastoni – 5: Making some errors like a regular 20-year-old. A couple of risky moves that did not cause damage. Did not contribute going forward as much as he does.

Antonio Candreva – 5: Stayed back for most of the first half but was late and lacked awareness on the goal. Did not want to venture forward, maybe Conte asked that of him.

Marcelo Brozovic – 5: Played the Eriksen role just in the hole behind both the strikers. Did not have as much space or time on the ball and looked ineffective and tired.

Roberto Gagliardini – 6: One of Gagliardini’s best first halves this season. Was involved in everything and got stuck in a lot of 50-50’s with some success. 2nd half was as poor.

Ashley Young – 5: Very poor game as Bruno Peres gave him a run around with some tricks. Constant passing errors that put Bastoni under pressure on his flank.

Nicolo Barella – 5.5: First game in 15 days and Nicolo did not look 100% at all. Got another booking that is now standard. Ran a lot but did not manage to create any quality.

Lautaro Martinez – 4.5 : The goal came from him trying to win a free kick rather than hold the ball. Struggled against the 3-man defense and could not get hold of the ball at all.

Alexis Sanchez – 6: Could not get a single shot on target and was largely ineffective, but still managed to grab an assist to De Vrij. Looked slightly better with Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku – 6.5: As is usual this season, Romelu came on to keep Inter afloat. Brought some physicality and movement that Lautaro could not bring to the table. Hope.

Cristiano Biraghi – 5.5: Nothing of note in attack and not much to do in defense. Conte would have surely hoped for a few runs from Cristiano, but he was timid as usual.

Victor Moses – 6.5: Impact off the bench is invaluable. His pace brought Roma a lot of trouble and it resulted in the chance Inter needed to seal a Champions League spot.

Christian Eriksen – 5.5: Looked much more active in his 20 minutes. His positioning was good, not the same impact as Moses but brought some forward momentum Inter lacked

Danilo D’Ambrosio – N/A: Managed to have an important contribution even in his 8 minutes. Crucial clearance to keep it at 2-2. His chasing down led to the penalty as well.

Antonio Conte – 5: Overall, the team was too timid in attack and should have pressed on to close the match earlier. Too few shots on target but qualification achieved.

Marco Di Bello – 3.5: Another poor referee that tarnishes the image of the Serie A. Missed too many bookings on Roma. Shockingly poor use of VAR at the stroke of half time.

Inter – 6: Achieving qualification to the Champions League earlier is good news for Interisti. Now Inter needs to build on this base and finish the season well.
