Inter manager Antonio Conte has shared his delight following Sunday’s result which secured Inter a fourth placed finish this season with four games to spare at the very worst.

“One of the most important things is without doubt that Inter has been in the top four positions from the beginning of the season. A club like Inter belongs here,” he remarked in an interview with official club broadcaster Inter TV ahead of tomorrow night’s clash against Fiorentina at San Siro.

“Having achieved this goal is positive because it was one of the club’s requests. We wanted to improve the results of the past years, have more stability and play the final phase of the season with more serenity.”

The former Italian national team boss then went on to discuss the increased competitiveness in Serie A and admitted that the team need to improve.

“The league has certainly become more competitive, just look at the numbers of the other teams. It will be increasingly hard and the level of the competition has been raised by a great deal.

“We must try to improve. The club’s ambition is to qualify for the Champions League every year, but also to be increasingly competitive and then aim for the Scudetto. Right now the best team is still Juventus, who are going for their ninth consecutive Scudetto. We look to them and try to improve.”

He then went on to share his views on Fiorentina and revealed that there will be some rotation to the starting XI that started this past weekend’s 2-2 draw away to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

“It is incredible that Fiorentina were in the position that they were in. They have a number of excellent players, they are a very good team and Iachini has done a good job as manager.

“They will be calm but when you face Inter you always have that extra motivation that make you give your best. We will be calm too and, inevitably, we will make evaluations. We have played a lot, some players need to rest. There will be some rotation.”

The 50-year-old then went on to provide an update with regard to injured midfielder Stefano Sensi and when he is likely to make a return to action from his latest injury lay-off.

“We hope to have Stefano Sensi back for the season finale or the match against Getafe. He has started running again, he is fine, but obviously the right precautions need to be taken.”

In conclusion Conte spoke on his decision to change from the 3-5-2 system to a 3-4-1-2 system that now means Inter have an attacking midfielder playing in behind the two strikers.

“The introduction of the attacking midfielder has given us the possibility of being more unpredictable in the attacking phase. The many goals that we have scored are evidence of this.

“Maybe we still concede too much at the back but this is because many men are involved in the attacking moves. The attacking midfielder moves between the lines, has freedom  and gives us many offensive solutions.”
