Fiorentina winger Franck Ribery has shared his belief that upcoming opponents Inter are on the right track ahead of tonight’s clash against them at San Siro.

“Inter are a very strong team, made up of champions. They have just started a journey so they need time but they seem to be on the right track,” the veteran Frenchman explained in an interview with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

He was then asked whether Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is worth the value of the €111 million release clause which is in his current contract with the club.

“Talking about numbers is always difficult but for sure he is a very strong player, but it is only his second season in Europe. We have to see what the market will say but I don’t know if the post COVID-19 figures can be compared to the previous ones.”

Next Ribery, who joined La Viola this past Summer after a long and successful spell with Bayern Munich, was asked why he thinks Inter January transfer window recruit Christian Eriksen has struggled as much as he has since joining.

“He arrived very recently in Italy. He had to sit still due to COVID-19 for three months. Italian football is difficult but over time Eriksen will demonstrate all his worth.”

In conclusion the 37-year-old was asked whether he and his teammates have what it takes to get the better of Inter tonight.

“Inter are a very strong team, but we have performed well away from home. We are calm and we can have a good game. After this match we face Roma away. This season I have already scored at both San Siro and at the Olimpico.”

This season Ribery has made 19 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals and provided as many assists.
