Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has insisted that the bar will be raised next season as the club look to further improve themselves and has shared his delight at the club already securing Champions League football for next season.

“The future of Inter is to face the new season with the certainty of going to the Champions League, even if there is a possibility that Roma and Napoli could win the respective Cups. It is a source of pride to have virtually hit the goal, the bar will rise again and with positive intent we will try to fill the gap,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, aired moments ago ahead of tonight’s match at San Siro against Fiorentina.

He then went on to discuss on loan forward Alexis Sanchez’s future with the club and admitted that there has been talks with his parent club Manchester United.

“We have made contact with United to find out if we can extend his stay after the match with Getafe.”

The former Juventus executive was then asked about the possibility of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez putting pen to paper on a new contract with the club.

“The question of contract renewal affects several players at the end of the season, especially the young players who we want to keep for a long time, including Lautaro.

“We will do it calmly. There is a relationship of trust, he is happy to wear this shirt and at the appropriate moment we will evaluate his future.”

In conclusion Marotta was asked whether Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa will perhaps play for Inter in the future. Inter have a reported long standing interest in signing the Italian national team winger but Marotta downplayed reports with his response.

“He is a Fiorentina player today and perhaps he will be next year too. It will depend on them. There have been no approaches and no negotiations. We respect Fiorentina and we give credit to the lad.”
