Edinson Cavani’s agent has revealed that his client wishes to continue his playing career in Europe as he wishes to play at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Cavani recently became a free agent after his contract with French champions Paris-Saint Germain expired and he has drawn no shortage of links to clubs across the globe, including Inter, Inter Miami, Benfica and a whole array of others.
Benfica are the newest club to have developed an interest in the experienced Uruguayan national team striker and his agent Gaston Fernandez has revealed that a move to the Liga NOS side is a possibility.
“Benfica is a possibility, even if there is currently nothing in terms of negotiations. I have no information on this and I don’t know how practical it would be. His goal is to stay in Europe because he wants to play at the 2022 World Cup,” Fernandez explained in an interview with Portuguese news outlet Record, which appeared in yesterday’s print edition.
This past season Cavani, who turned 33-years-old back in February, made 22 appearances across all competitions to date. During his time on the park, he scored seven goals and provided three assists for his teammates.
