Inter manager Antonio Conte is happy with what he saw from his team in Wednesday night’s match against Fiorentina, despite the fact it very frustratingly ended 0-0.

Inter had so many chances in both halves of the match but were unable to capitalise on them and were forced to settle for just a point with the man of the match performance from Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano a big reason in this.

“Tonight’s match is totally positive. I saw a team without fear, with good moves and we created many chances,”
he explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the full time whistle at San Siro.

“We took some risks due to our desire to win. I’m only sorry for the boys who were disappointed by the result. This is positive because this means that they are beginning to having something inside them which brings them closer to what can be called a winning mentality.”

The former Italian national team boss was then asked about central defender Stefan de Vrij and his condition after the Dutchman was forced to come off during the first half as a result of an injury.

“Talking to the doctor, he told me it shouldn’t be anything in particular. He got scared and wanted to come off but let’s not forget what Ranocchia did, congratulations to him.”

In conclusion the 50-year-old was asked about the importance of games such as this one when it comes to trying to build a winning mentality.

“It is inevitable that there is disappointment, you play to win every game. There is a desire to go as high up as possible, but I repeat, I only care about whoever finishes first.

“It is important for us today to talk about the Champions League, which is an important milestone but I don’t remember teams who finished in second or third being in the football history books.”
