Italian government minister for sport Vincenzo Spadafora has revealed that fans should be back in the stadiums watching their teams play from September.

Due to the global Coronavirus crisis, some games prior to the season being halted were played without any fans present and all games since the season resumed last month have been played behind closed doors.

Spadafora has explained that whilst all fans will not be allowed back in immediately, a portion will be allowed back in and will have to follow a series of different protective measures.

“If the epidemiological curve allows, we should be able to see fans in the stadiums come September,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station GR1 Rai earier on today.

“Obviously, we won’t be able to fill the stadium the way we did before, but respecting a series of measures that we are studying at the moment.”

The 2019/20 Serie A season has just three games left therefore there will be no fans seen for the remainder of the season but with the 2020/21 season expected to start in September, there could well be fans back in the stands cheering on their teams again after several months having to watch their teams solely on television.
