Jan Vertonghen has taken to social media platform Twitter to announce that he has left Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

Following the conclusion of the 2019/20 Premier League season yesterday, the Belgian national team central defender’s deal with the club has now expired and he is now a free agent.

Vertonghen has found himself linked to a whole array of clubs for recent weeks and months, including Inter, who would reportedly like to bring him in to bolster the defensive department with his wealth of experience.

Inter’s fellow Serie A club Roma have also been linked with a potential move for Vertonghen with reports suggesting that the Italian capital city side could move for him if unable to keep a hold of on loan Chris Smaling.

Vertonghen has spent the last eight years with north London based Spurs, in which time he made no less than 315 appearances across all competitions to date. The 33-year-old scored 14 goals and tallied seven assists for the club.

He posted: “So my time at the club comes to an end. A sad day for many reasons. I will miss the friends I’ve made here, the staff that make the club run, playing at the amazing new stadium & of course you fans.”
